SHAUN LIGHTFOOT
Shaun is the Managing Partner at DLS Attorneys. He is a qualified lawyer with over two decades of experience spanning corporate law, banking, mining, property, and conservation-related sectors in Zimbabwe. After completing his LLB at the University of Cape Town and Articles of Clerkship with Coghlan, Welsh & Guest in Harare, he was admitted as a practising lawyer in 2002. Shaun began his corporate career as Legal Advisor to Pioneer Transport Limited (now Pioneer Africa Limited), where he played a lead role in the company’s reverse listing into Clan Transport Limited. He went on to serve on the board of Premier Finance Group Limited for six years, contributing to its transition from a discount house to a fully-fledged merchant bank.
In the mining sector, Shaun has developed extensive knowledge of Zimbabwe’s mining legislation, investment frameworks, and regulatory environment. He has structured and facilitated several mining-related investments for both local and international investors, including joint ventures, equity transactions, and compliance with licensing and environmental obligations.
His experience includes advising on mining rights, negotiating contracts with government authorities and private stakeholders, and providing legal oversight of exploration and operational agreements.
Specialising in contract and commercial law, Shaun has been closely involved in Zimbabwe’s property boom, advising on high-value transactions for an extensive client base. Beyond commercial practice, he has worked with the Ministry of Environment and National Parks and developed a diverse portfolio of clients in the safari and tourism industry, reflecting his passion for conservation and the outdoors.
