RICHARD MANWICK DHAKA

After obtaining his Bachelor of Laws degree from Rhodes University, where Richard graduated in April 2012, he breezed through the Zimbabwean equivalent of bar admission exams for foreign trained graduates. Richard passed the examinations with flying colours, and was in short order admitted as an attorney of the High Court of Zimbabwe, in January 2013.

In the interim Richard had commenced practice in October 2012, as an intern at Ziumbe & Partners (formerly Ziumbe & Mtambanengwe), one of the oldest black owned firms in Zimbabwe. Upon admission as an attorney, Richard was promoted to Associate from January 2013. Later, he joined the firm of Wilmot & Bennett, between and practised as an associate between March 2015 and February 2018. In March 2018 Richard joined Matizanadzo & Warhurst (now Matizanadzo Attorneys) as a Senior Associate until the 31st of July, 2022.

With effect from the 1st of August, 2022, Richard heads the Firm’s Conveyancing, Property Law and Estates Department. Richard very much enjoys keeping his hand in and routinely crosses over to the Litigation and Recoveries Department when occasion calls. Richard possesses a wealth of experience in both criminal and civil litigation.

Richard has been the nemesis of many a stubborn tenant who has dared to threaten our clients’ rights in the area of landlord and tenant law. As regards conveyancing matters, the Firm boasts of quick turnaround times in various conveyancing transactions. Richard hopes to steadily grow the Firm’s portfolio and number of satisfied clients in the Conveyancing, Property Law and Estates Department.

Richard can list in his past and present portfolio: drafting of agreements for several tertiary institutions and for a leading regional trade bank; several high profile civil and criminal litigation matters. He is proud to have successfully argued one of the few decided land compensation claims in Zimbabwe, which matter terminated with a multi-million dollar judgment for his client in a claim for compensation against compulsory acquisition of land by the Government of Zimbabwe.

Richard is a member of the Law Society of Zimbabwe; Council of Estate Administrators, and is also on the Master of the High Court’s panel of Estate Administrators. In his leisure time, Richard enjoys reading works on spy fiction and legal humour/drama. He also enjoys the outdoors and is always up for a good fishing excursion. Richard can never say not to a good round of chess.
