KERRY STONE
Mrs. Stone heads our Litigation and Recoveries department. She has demonstrated amazing tenacity as a litigator and her energy and passion for the defence of our clients makes Kerry an invaluable member of our team.
Kerry was admitted as a legal practitioner in 2017, having spent most of 2016 studying for the Zimbabwean equivalent of bar admission exams for foreign trained graduates. Kerry aced all her exams in one sitting. Kerry undertook her conversion exams while undertaking pupillage as a junior advocate under Advocate Thabani Mpofu of the Chambers, Harare, arguably one of the foremost advocates of his generation.
Armed with invaluable experience from the pupillage training, Kerry embarked on the next stage of her career in January 2019, after leaving the Chambers in December 2018. Kerry Joined Matizanadzo & Warhurst in January, 2019, before partnering with Richard and Shaun in May, 2022. Kerry has proved herself to be an essential member of our team.
She has a very good theoretical background in commercial law, and combining that with her interest in litigation, Kerry now specializes in general advisory and litigation in corporate law and commercial law. She also focuses on litigation in the Criminal Courts, as well as debt recoveries. Kerry is a very results oriented litigator and legal advisor, and applies herself beyond the call of duty. Kerry has experience appearing in the various courts in the hierarchy of the Court system, from the Magistrates Court, to the High Court and all the way to the Supreme Court.
Highlights in Kerry’s legal career to date include being part of the defence team for the former Prosecutor-General of Zimbabwe, during a Commission of Inquiry to determine the Prosecutor General’s suitability to remain in Office. Kerry was also on the research team preparing arguments challenging the constitutionality of the decision of the Government of Zimbabwe’s decision to introduce bond notes, in the Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe.
Kerry is a member of the Law Society of Zimbabwe. In her spare time, Kerry likes to play golf.
